20 Mar 2024: Kelso v Selkirk; a miller brilliancy

Kelso came to the Town Arms on Tuesday 19th to play their "home" match against Selkirk, and came away 3-1 winners over Selkirk.  The games went broadly in line with grading, but Dave Bogle on board 1 and John Moore on board recorded draws against Ian Whittaker and Keith Aitchison respectively.  This is the final game in the League, and the League table is now complete.

In the Selkirk Championships, Chris Nathan beat Sam Cornwell.

Meanwhile, Bill Miller is doing good things on chess.com. This is the fine conclusion to his game against Spanish player Kememeo, where Bill delivered an unusual two-knight mate. Nice to see - and well done Bill / Jocundday.

10 Mar 2024: A Congress in Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Park Congress is to be held on the weekend 22-24 March in the Novotel Edinburgh Park.  It offers three standard tournaments (<2400, <1900 and <1600) plus an evening blitz event.  Two members of Selkirk Chess Club have entered the under-1600 tournament, so if any other Borders players are interested then there's a good possibiilty that shared transport can be arranged.

The congress website is at http://congress.popmalc.org.uk/congress/396/home

As you can see, we occupy a fairly spacious room above the main bar of the Town Arms. It is a friendly club, and we always welcome new chessplayers.
